Christmas gifts for the home
As December is almost here, we at Chameleon Interior designshttps://www.chameleondesignsinteriors.co.uk have turned our thoughts to Christmas presents for friends and family that will enhance their homes and add an element of design. Obviously taste is a very important consideration, and by that we mean of the recipient and not the donor. If you know the gift receiver well then this can be very straightforward, especially if you also know the style of their home interior, their likes and dislikes. If you are not sure then we will give you some tips on keeping your gift neutral.
One of the easiest gifts to give at this time of year is a scented candle(s). Nothing quite lifts the spirits or creates an ambience like a beautifully scented candle. Candles may work in some rooms but present a safety hazard in another. A diffuser is a great way to give your bathroom a fresh scent and can be used as a decorative touch in your entrance hall. Flickering candles on the other hand are a great way to add a little extra warmth and atmosphere to your living space. They fall into eight groups. Floral, Woody, Citrus, Fruity, Fresh, Green, Spicy and Sweet. Scents create atmosphere and will help transition your space. For example, spicy, green scents emanate a festive feel during winter. Use of a real Christmas tree, will also add a beautiful fresh pine scent to a room and space. For a more neutral candle, avoid Woody, Floral and Sweet. Consider also the shape, size, number and look of your candle gift. Is it in a stylish container? Does it come with an attractive cover? Many people keep the candles intact and do not burn them down if they have an attractive appearance.
A gift that will go on from year to year is a decoration for the Christmas tree. So many design firms Such as Alessi, Waterford crystal etc. makes their own beautiful hanging baubles. Set your price range and buy just one decoration for that budget. You can chose from beautiful cut glass, whimsical snowmen or even nativity characters. Some decorations come with a year on them or can be personalised with a name or special date for an event such a ‘Babies first Christmas’. You can also continue to purchase further items each subsequent year, which will add to the beauty of the recipient’s tree and can be handed down through the family for many years to come. Create a tradition.
We also like the idea of gifting throws, which are great multitaskers, they bring personality to your room, pull a design together and provide extra warmth and support to your cosiest living spaces. Rather than matching them to the recipient’s sofa, choose a colour that complements other elements in their living room to create a better harmony. In the winter months you should buy warm colours and textured materials. Remember a throw can be used to snuggle under as well as enhance a room design so choose a natural material such as wool, silk or cotton. If in doubt on taste then go for a luxurious texture but in a more neutral colour, is our simplest tip. Things to consider when buying a throw are texture, colour, pattern and fabric.
Our last suggestion is to buy a really well designed utilitarian item such as a glass or stainless steel water jug; an art deco or rocket shaped cocktail shaker or a stylish Danish designed fruit bowl. All these items can be displayed in their own right and/or used for the function for which they were designed. We like Georg Jensen, Robert Welch and Menu items.
Finally, we at Chameleon Interior designs https://www.chameleondesignsinteriors.co.ukwould like to take the opportunity to wish all our readers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and peaceful New Year.
